Starting a Charlotte Mason Nature Study Club

01. Find some like-minded moms in your area.

One of the easiest ways to find like-minded moms is through other mom groups I would start with MOPS, Bible Study Fellowship, Charlotte Mason Soiree (there’s a “map” search feature of local CM moms in U.S.) and also check your local church groups. You can also use the Wild + Free groups map to find other nature-focused families.

02. You can keep it open to many or just select a few families to participate!

I’ve done it both ways, where I invite several families and switch it up to whoever can make it, or just meet with the same 3-4 families consistently.

03. Pick a day of the week (or bi-weekly) and pick a time.

The nice thing about leading an event like this is that you can control the time, place, etc. I chose Wednesdays, but I’ve done Friday afternoons as well!

04. Pick four to five locations to rotate through so you can see them through the seasons.

I tried to pick locations that were centrally located for all of the families, and also spots with covered areas for nature journaling, as we live in a rainier climate.

05. Pick a way to communicate your group outings.

I’ve used the Band app, FB groups, FB messenger, or even just a group text to post the info for each nature study club!

06. Let everyone know what to expect.

Share what to bring, the schedule, where to meet, group expectations/behavior, put an age limit if necessary.

07. Have fun and enjoy community in nature!

The most important thing is to get out in nature and have fun!

Our Nature Study Club Schedule
