Gift Guide for Children Who Love the Outdoors
When we moved to the PNW over two years ago, my daughters didn’t know what it meant to play outdoors. They had never sauntered through the forest. Come to think of it… neither had I. The truth is both my husband and I have made a commitment to our children that we will foster a deep relationship with and true love for the outdoors. We’ve all grown so much as a family these past few years since making that commitment, and it’s been remarkable. I wanted to take some time this holiday season to share some of our favorite products for children who love the outdoors.
Three years ago I was making lists and lists of gift guides full of stuff that would keep your children busy indoors. Some of these toys were useful, but some just weren’t necessary. The thing about childhood is that we can fill it up with all the things in the world, but at the end of the day, our children need one thing.
Time.
Yep. That’s it. That’s the secret to parenting. Time spent outdoors. Time spent with each other. Time spent immersed in play. Time. So in light of spending time outside, I’ve put together a thoughtful, curated guide of what I think would benefit a child who spends a lot of time outdoors.

Simply Merino is a small, Vancouver-based brand focused on merino wool products for women and children. All of their products are 100% merino-based wool which means they last.
There are no acrylics or polyesters in their products, which makes them extremely durable and sustainable. The best part?
Simply Merino’s garments are completely chemical-free.
Why wear wool outdoors?
Wool is hypo-allergenic, naturally flame retardant, and super warm! Wool makes a great underlayer because it wicks away moisture. If you spend a lot of time outside with your children, consider checking out their shop here! Their whole site is up to 30% off for Black Friday. If you’re seeing this post after Black Friday, use code LIVINGINCOLOR for 10% off!
