We’ve been using Dash Into Reading in our home for over a year, so I figured it was time to write a little review about it! I share a few reasons we’ve really enjoyed this low-pressure, beginning reading program below, so keep reading to see more of my Dash into Reading Review!
Dash Into Reading Review
What is Dash into Reading?
Dash into Reading is an open-and-go beginning reading program made up of early phonics books. The illustrations are gorgeous, and the stories are adorable! I personally really like these over other early readers because they are simple with classic, minimalist illustrations and stories, unlike some of the other early reader competitors. The program also has an innovative tool called the “blending path” that helps children learn to decode words. Plus, there are really cute finger puppets to cut out and use for when your child is first starting out with tracking!
01. Dash into Reading requires no prep.
In the video below, I show you the “Parent Guide” that you read through when first beginning the program. That’s all the prep that’s required before beginning! It’s short, sweet and to the point! I love when programs don’t require a ton of prep, because I’m more likely to actually do it with my kids!
02. Anyone can use it to teach their child.
Anyone can use this program to teach their child. There is no training required. The tools are all right there on the first page of each little book. You simply review them quickly before starting with your child. All you need for teaching phonics is the book itself! No other supplies needed!
03. It keeps kids engaged.
The illustrations are simply beautiful and diverse. The stories are wonderfully relatable and engaging. My daughter truly loves and enjoys the characters in each book, so she can’t wait to read them with me to find out what happens next.
04. You can move at the child’s pace (not the pace of units or “weeks”)
By far, my favorite part of Dash into Reading is that your child can go as quickly or slowly as they like through the program. We’ve been using the first set of 10 books for over a year. I love that it’s no pressure on my part or on my child’s!
