Sustainable Style Sessions is a project that I am extremely passionate about. I have so much fun styling these outfits from my closet and Madewell for you! This week I’m sharing about the Fair Trade Certified Denim with Madewell. Last year, Madewell announced the release of their Fair Trade Certified denim. Each piece in the collection was made in a factory that meets the rigorous standards put in place by Fair Trade USA. Keep reading to find out more!
What is Fair Trade Certified™?
So Fair Trade Certified™ puts standards in place for factories to meet. This includes standards like paying their workers a fair and living wage, and keeping their environmental impacts (water recycling, for example) top of mind when creating materials. One of the factories Madewell partners with for their Fair Trade line is the Saitex factory. You can read more about their practices here.
Madewell’s Fair Trade Denim Style Session
Here are the outfits I created with the three styles of denim from Madewell! I wanted to try out three styles to share my personal thoughts on them. I also include the size I’m wearing and the contents of the denim, if you are interested!
Note: I linked to exact pieces when possible but many of these items I’ve had for awhile and won’t be in stock. I also wanted to take away any “mystery” by giving the exact name and fit/style info where each piece is concerned in case you are in the market for a new item. BUT before shopping these links, make sure to check out your closet to see if you can recreate this with what you already have!
// OUTFIT ONE // The Classic Straight Jean
This style of jean has been on repeat for me. I love the tighter fit through the waist and thighs, and cropped look! These jeans have an 11″ rise and 26″ inseam. They were were made in the Fair Trade Certified™ Saitex factory! They’re made of 98% cotton and 2% elastane.
I styled the classic straight jeans with a basic camel colored top and my Madewell ‘Harper’ mules. I love a neutral look, so blacks, browns, and ivory together are like magic!

// OUTFIT TWO // The High-Rise Skinny Jeans
I know other styles of jeans are super in right now, but I’m a forever skinny jeans girl. I love the silhouette of skinny jeans with a bigger, bolder piece on top! These specific jeans are the 10″ High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Brockton Wash from the Fair Trade Certified™ Saitex factory, which recycles 98% of its water and uses renewable energy! They’re made from 95% cotton, 3% polyester, and 2% elastane. They have the right amount of stretch, but are fitted through the hip and thigh and have a skinny ankle hem. Love the raw hem look!

// OUTFIT THREE // The Perfect Vintage Jean in Sumner Wash
I knew I had a to try out the perfect vintage jeans because I have this style in another wash, and I LOVE them! These jeans specifically have a total 90’s mom jean vibe. I love the high rise and tapered leg. They were crafted in the Fair Trade Certified™ Saitex factory. They’re made up of 94% cotton, 5% polyester, and 1% elastane. They have an 11″ rise and a 26.5″ inseam, so they’re a great length for wearing with boots! I opted for an all black look for this last one. I wanted to show you my Madewell jacket (that I thrifted last year) and how great of a pair they are together!
