Sustainable Style Sessions is a project that I am extremely passionate about. I have so much fun styling these outfits from my closet for you! This week I’m talking about how to style a denim skirt four ways. My goal in these style sessions is 2 things: 1. to inspire you to shop your closet, and 2. to give you ideas for outfits with pieces you probably already have! I wrote about it more in this Instagram post, but the good ‘ol days of simple outfit inspo are long gone, and I really want to bring them back! So here we go!

How to Style A Denim Skirt Four Ways

I’ve had this denim skirt for a really long time! Like, years! I bought it in both blue and black because it’s such a great spring and summer closet staple. I did link to the one I’m wearing below. It’s from Topshop years ago, and somehow they still have a couple of sizes. I’m wearing the 6. It runs small. I’m usually a 2 or 4. However, I want to encourage you to try and thrift a denim skirt before buying new!

If you do try to thrift one, look for three things:

1. Make sure it’s long enough. The Abercrombie skirts from the early 2000’s are superrr short.

2. Make sure it has a nice a-line look. I think this shape for a denim skirt is the most classic-feeling.

3. Look for a high-waisted one. I feel like this also pairs better with outfits than lower rise skirts.

If you are going to buy one new, I encourage you to buy one that’s ethically made. This denim skirt from Everlane is adorable and $58 a great price for a responsibly-made garment. It also comes in four washes.

Note:  I linked to exact pieces when possible but many of these items I’ve had for awhile and won’t be in stock. I also wanted to take away any “mystery” by giving the exact name and fit/style info where each piece is concerned in case you are in the market for a new item. BUT before shopping these links, make sure to check our your closet to see if you can recreate this with what you already have!
