I am a Brand Ambassadör for IKEA U.S. This is a sponsored post.

We just moved into a beautiful home. We love the layout and it suits our needs for the most part. One thing we don’t love, though? We both work from home most of the time, and we don’t have a home office! It’s been a struggle, and it’s honestly something we didn’t foresee as neither of us worked from home when we bought this home! We’ve had to get super creative about our workspace, so I’m delighted to finally share tips on how to create a cozy workspace in your bedroom.

How to Create a Cozy Workspace in Your Bedroom

WHY DO I SHOP AT IKEA?

We used IKEA to furnish this space in our house, but truth be told, we have IKEA furniture in every room of our new home. Why? I really love their brand. I’m continuously impressed with how much effort IKEA puts into sustainability. According to their 2017 sustainability report (it’s available on their site), 91% of the waste from their stores is recycled or incinerated for energy recovery. That’s an amazing percentage, especially considering how many storefronts and warehouses they have around the world.

LED light bulb use is something I’ve watched IKEA encourage back when I was shopping there back in college. In 2017 they sold 85 million energy-efficient LED light bulbs at a super fair price, replacing those incandescent bulbs we still see in so many stores. Doesn’t it make you feel good to see big companies like this doing their part to create a more sustainable future?

DESIGN TIP #1

Work vertically, not horizontally. I love the IKEA ‘Lack’ floating shelves because they allow me to decorate the space, up and not out. We are pretty limited on space in our master. There’s quite a bit of furniture in our room: a king-size bed, two nightstands, a baby crib, a dresser, and now a desk! So we definitely have to get creative with our space. Decorating horizontally allows us to create a cozy workspace that feels clean and inviting.

DESIGN TIP #2

Make it feel like Spring. The workspace is in our bedroom, and sometimes that can look and feel gloomy. We knew we wanted to keep the space clean, minimal, yet lively. The variety of plants and succulents we chose for this space keep it looking and feeling cheery. We have tons of windows in our room too, so we’re always sure to open the blinds and let some sun in to remind us what the outdoors feels like during this beautiful time of year.

DESIGN TIP #3

Get creative with storage. The IKEA ‘Alex’ desk we chose is nice because it has drawers to keep stuff in, but still looks slim and sleek. I really wanted to get some sort of file cabinet to keep files and papers in so that the space doesn’t get cluttered, but I had a hard time finding something that appealed to me aesthetically.

I was super glad to have found these black baskets at IKEA. We turned them on their sides, and found the grey file folders that fit JUST right into the baskets. It ties in the black tones from the whole space, and allows for chic-looking storage to reduce clutter.
