It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That’s right; it’s citrus season! I’m sharing an easy immunity-boosting smoothie recipe for the whole family! Keep reading to learn more about the amazing benefits of citrus, and why I specifically use Cuties mandarins in our immunity-boosting smoothies.

You guys, it’s so sunny here still! I know lots of the country is in snow, but we’re celebrating Cuties’ #100daysofsunshine by spending lots of time outdoors (this is literally our summer) and drinking fruity drinks like this one. Are you a citrus fan?

WHY EAT CITRUS?

As a health enthusiast, I love the benefits that citrus gives to our bodies! These little powerhouses are chock full of fiber, vitamin C, calcium, folate, potassium… the list goes on! For this reason, I try and be sure Grace gets a few servings of citrus a day. It isn’t very difficult since she loves the sweet taste of oranges!

Anything with citrus in it is great for naturally boosting immunity during cold and flu season because of the benefits I listed above. If you’re not into cold smoothies, you can easily blend up just the citrus and coconut water with your breakfast each morning. It was our morning ritual last year, but now that Grace is older, she loves making this smoothie in the blender.

EASY IMMUNITY-BOOSTING SMOOTHIE RECIPE:

This recipe is great for the whole family to drink health-wise, but equally wonderful because the whole family can partake in making it!

Gracie is in love with Cuties. I keep them in a drawer in my fridge, and as soon as she spots them, she’s bound to ask for one or two. Her favorite part of eating them? Yes they’re sweet, healthy, juicy, and delicious, but she loves that she can peel them on her own.

Gracie is at that age where she wants to do everything herself. It’s hard for me as a type A nurturer to sort of let go and hand over control, so this is a great way for us to compromise! In the photos, she is (very excitedly) helping me peel the oranges and putting them in the blender to be puréed.

Ingredients:

  • 8 Cuties, peeled (by helpful little hands)
  • 1-2 cups cold coconut water
  • 2 cups frozen mango
  • 1 cup frozen bananas
  • 1 cup ice
  • 2 tbs. hemp hearts
  • 2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • optional: 1 tsp. fresh, raw ginger root

Method:

  1. Place all of your ingredients into a high-speed blender. (Depending on your desired consistency – thin or thick – you’ll use more or less coconut water. I use less because I like them to be thicker).
  2. Blend for one minute on high.
  3. Serve, and enjoy with your family and friends!

I hope you enjoyed this recipe, and this post! If you decide to try it out with your little ones, use the hashtag #LivinginColorEats so I can see how much you and your family are enjoying your smoothies!

  1. How fun to bond like that. My 13 month old loves smoothies and wants one every morning in her bottle. I steam cauliflower and then add canned peaches, a banana, orange, blueberry and 1-2 c. Orange juice, apple or water and blend. My baby loves this combo. I add broccoli too sometimes, always steamed first.. She hears tbe loud blender run in the morning and does her happy dance. So cute. My 5 year old hates the loud blender. I love how its a morning routine my baby expects. The familiar sound of the blender. Try giving grace the cauliflower smoothie. Its really delicious.
