I’m excited to share five healthy back to school snack ideas with you, as snacks are definitely our thing around here. In the past, I struggled with finding healthy, non-perishable items to bring with us on our busy days out. However, I’d say that over the past two years, I’ve mastered the art of healthy snacks. Keep reading for my tips, and see where you can find this adorable bento box!

FIVE HEALTHY BACK TO SCHOOL SNACK IDEAS:

Dried Fruit

Okay, so dried fruit is definitely our go-to, non-perishable snack for Grace. Her favorite right now include medjool dates (just make sure you take the pit out), dried cranberry (sweetened with apple juice, NOT cane sugar), and dried blueberries. We also do lots of freeze-dried fruits as well. Those come pre-packaged, and they have a crunchy texture like chips!

Fresh Veggies

I know not most children are skeptical of veggies, but we’ve been feeding Grace grape tomatoes and fresh cucumbers since she started eating, pretty much. She’s obsessed with these things. I think tomatoes are her number one favorite food of all time, which is absolutely hilarious. Girl knows what she likes. Anyway, these are both healthy foods for kids and pretty mild compared to most veggies. Carrot sticks are also a great raw, healthy snack. Tip: You can add hommus for your kids to dip the veggies in!

Roasted Nuts & Seeds

Don’t bash it ’til you try it. Roasted walnuts are one of our favorites around here. Grace thinks they’re crackers because they are crunchy, and they’re a great source of protein and fat for her. The seeds in there are just pumpkin seeds with a bit of sea salt that I bought at the store. They’re Eden brand, I believe, and we love taking them on the go.

Sprouted Grain Crackers

Sprouted grain crackers from Simple Mills are amazing. They are minimally processed, and taste like heaven. I also love that they’re sprouted grain because anything sprouted is much easier on the digestive system. They’re great for stacking veggies on too. Or if you want a make-your-own lunchable type snack, you can stack your favorite protein on there. Hommus and tomato are our go-to toppers.

Almond Flour Grain-Free Tortilla

Almond flour, grain-free Siete Foods tortillas are my new favorite thing. As you know, we eat a plant-based diet, so we don’t do sandwiches or wraps with meat/cheese, but if you do, these are a perfect alternative to your average Mission tortilla. I used to use those for my wraps, and they’re just so chewy, and full of ingredients I’m not fond of. I like that these tortillas are clean. I buy them at my local Natural Grocer or Whole Foods, or you can order on Amazon (just know you have to pay for shipping!

  1. I love all these ideas! I don’t generally buy crackers, but this year I found some whole wheat crackers that weren’t $20 a box (Exaggerating a little lol) and the kids love them. What a sweetie you have there.

  2. That’s so funny! One of Parker’s favorite things are tomatoes too. She can’t get enough! Thanks for the suggestions. We love dried fruit too.
