Hi friends! I’m super excited about my rapidly approaching due date, and wanted to share some things that I plan on taking with me to the hospital. Since I’m a first time mom, I’m sure some of this stuff will be excessive/I won’t need it all at the hospital, but I’m of the mindset that it’s better to be safe than sorry! Even if you’re husband’s carrying a couple extra bags for you 😉

Because I’m an organization freak, I separated this post into two sections – what to pack for mom, and what to pack for baby! I just used a typical [well, it does have pink polka dots] suitcase and duffel bag for my hospital things, and I decided on a Tory Burch ‘Ella’ tote as my diaper bag. I’m in love with the nylon material, and it’s still stylish enough to wear with my outfits!
List of things I put in my hospital bag:
– insurance cards, birth plan, hospital documents
my own hospital gown: I adore the pink polka dot one I got from Baby Be Mine Maternity.
– 2 pairs of nonskid socks
– a book to read while you’re waiting for labor to progress: I’m reading The Happiest Baby on the Block, and Bring Up Bebe (for the second time!)
– iPod with birthing playlist/speakers
– 2-3 maternity/nursing bras
– 2 nursing gowns and/or robes to wear after delivery
– nursing pads for leaking/soothing
Lalabu soothe shirt: I can’t wait to try this out. It’s the ultimate way to ‘wear’ your baby. I’ve been doing lots of research on baby wearing!
– 2 comfy outfits to wear in the hospital
– toiletries (face wash, make-up remover, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, etc.)
– hair dryer/flat iron
– my own pillow (with a distinguishable pillow case)
– my own towel (I hear hospital ones can be rough and tiny)- make-up bag (I know we’ll be taking pictures, and I want to look nice!)
Milk & Baby Belly Bandit compression top: this is a nursing top, and it helps start trimming your waistline! I am super excited about this item!
– camera with battery and charger
– a going home outfit: I chose this comfy, cute dress from Pink Blush Maternity
– baby wearing wrap: I may try this out at the hospital so the nurses can help me, but I know I’ll be using this amazing wrap ALL THE TIME! I love the Happy Baby Wrap because they’ve got such amazing prints and patterns!
List of things I packed in baby’s diaper bag:
– 3 onesies in newborn size
– 3 onesies in 0-3 months size
– 2 pairs of mitts for baby’s hands
– 2-3 pairs of baby socks
2 Aden + Anais Muslin swaddle blankets: I’ve heard such great things about Muslin blankets!
– adorable headbands/infant hats (these ones below are from Infanteenie Beenie – @infanteeniebeenie)
– a few extra diapers
Hemmed in 3-in-1 infant accessory: this piece is a nursing cover, carseat canopy, and play mat/blanket (items like this seem super mom-friendly so I don’t have to carry around a million things… it serves multiple purposes.) Have I mentioned how excited I am about nursing?!
– installed car seat: we chose the Uppababy Mesa car seat
-stylish nursing scarf: I’ll probably wear this one home! I love my chevron scarf from Kismet Love Collection (@kismetlovecollection)
Like I said, it may seem like a lot of stuff, but I’d rather be over-prepared than under-prepared! What are some things you took to the hospital that you maybe don’t see on my list? Let me know in the comments below, I love hearing from other mama’s!

  1. I absolutely love the muslin blankets from Aden & Anais! I still have all of the ones from my first daughter & am going to use them for our second as well. Good call bringing two sizes of clothing too! You never know what will fit & won't!

  2. Looks like you are all set, Elle. Looking forward to little princess' arrival. I will keep updated here on your blog to see when she comes in. Good luck with everything and you both stay healthy!
